Fresh Takes: Gurren Lagann Episode 10 Review

Welcome, anime fans, to another installment of Fresh Takes! This time, our dynamic anime duo, Brock and Mike, review and analyze episode 10 of Gurren Lagann, entitled “Who Is This Bro?”, the second part of the “Simon, Get Your Sh*t Together!” story arc, which also introduces the Dai-Gurren gang to Nia, the daughter of… the Spiral King??? Whaaaat?!? Hit that damn play button!

So here we have Simon, Yoko, Kittan, and the supporting cast mourning over the loss of Kamina as they deal with the arrival of the Princess, who was cast out by the King. Methinks we’re in for a fantastically awkward family reunion! Oh, btw, what’s up with evil boss lairs, anyway? I mean, what do they do all day in them? There’s like, a throne, a harem, some very stylized stairs, and… floaty rocks? How does that equal fun? Okay, the harem I kinda get, but the other stuff? I’d at least have a PS5 in that place and a big screen TV.

All kidding aside, this is yet another great episode of Fresh Takes and a wonderful look back at a pretty damn great anime series! Gainax did a fine job with the animation, and the writing is top-notch! I think I prefer Yoko over Nia, but that’s just me. We’ll see where the story goes next week!
