Since I’ve already written out my feelings on the Last of Us 2 in the official review and analysis, I’ll simply say that I had an enormously fun time talking about it on this podcast. We said everything we’ve wanted to say about the game since it released, and I would implore you to listen to this show with an open mind, even if you disagree with us or just hate the game. Even as someone who liked the game, I was surprised by my co-hosts’ perspectives. Some of us loved it, while some of us have more complicated feelings towards it. One thing is for sure, though: this game made us think, and it made us carefully consider our own ideals and ethics, and that’s a good thing!
In the end, I think Naughty Dog has done amazing work with the Last of Us franchise. Where it goes from here is anyone’s guess, but it turns out I’m glad they made this sequel. I’m happy I got to spend more time in that gorgeously devastated world, and I’m content that I got to spend more time with Ellie and Joel, even if it was bittersweet and broke me down emotionally. These characters are etched on to my gaming soul, and I’m grateful to Neil Druckmann, Bruce Straley, Anthony Newman, Kurt Margenau, Halley Gross, Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Gustavo Santaolalla, and everyone else who had a hand in creating such a challenging, cinematic, and engrossing franchise.
