What’s going on, everyone? This is your Captain speaking, and it’s been a while since we’ve done a Free For All podcast on this site! The last one of these was posted in December 2020, and a lot has changed since then. The main reason for this recording was to share our thoughts on the brand new teaser trailer for Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which will be released nationwide on April 7th, 2023. Tune in to hear what we have to say about this, as well as a bevy of other topics!
The Super Mario Bros. Movie Teaser Trailer
I don’t want to speak for everyone, but it feels like the general consensus so far is that visually the movie looks amazing! Having Shigeru Miyamoto directly involved in the production means we’re going to get the most faithful adaptation of really any video game property (we’ve come a long way since the live action film from the 90’s). As nonplussed as we all are with the casting of Chris Pratt as the titular protagonist, I’ll reserve further judgement until I see the finished product. Everyone else, however, sounds like they understood the assignment, particularly Jack Black as Bowser and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. I’m aware that a trailer doesn’t always reflect the quality of the film, but as a first impression, consider me impressed!
