Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass-terpiece - Renegade Marquee #14

October 13, 2021 by Joshua Lozano in Renegade Marquee, TV

Tonight, on a MASSive episode of Renegade Marquee, we go two for two on the puns we can squeeze out of Mike Flanagan's newest limited series Midnight Mass, as Captain Kaye, The Director, The Streamin' Demon, and Haley discuss the director's work, as well as the themes tackled...

How’s it going, fellow Renegades? We’re bringing you an unnaturally late episode of the Marquee to talk serious. We’ve got a helluva show in place with broad discussions of MIDNIGHT MASS, which was so monumental, I HAD to get on and talk about it.

I honestly had a lot to say about it, and I still do as later on in the month, I will be bringing a series of editorials about pieces of horror media that made an impression on me (this series being one of them), but likewise this also comes with it a little bit of a trigger warning: we do get into heavy discussions in the latter part of this episode talking about faith, and our own personal beliefs when it comes to religion and God. If there are any viewers who might not find it comforting. If you find yourself open to hearing about the impact of the series’ finale (which itself comes with a caveat of being a Spoiler Warning as well), I highly suggest you give the series and our discussion a chance.

Well, with all the seriousness out of the way, I’ll kick it over to the Captain for his quick thoughts!

MIDNIGHT MASS (2021)

“Midnight Mass might very well be Mike Flanagan's masterpiece. It's not just another horror series like the Haunting of Hill House, but a thoughtful and challenging critique of organized religion. The first couple episodes may be slower paced, but they are necessary to lay the groundwork for when shit really hits the fan. To say anymore would be a spoiler, so please just watch this as soon as you can!” - Captain Kaye

Well, that’ll do it for this episode! Thanks to Jacob for editing this episode, as well as Haley for dropping in for as long as she did! Keep a weather eye on the horizon and we’ll see you guys in the next episode!
