Rock is a Lady's Modesty Review - Renegade Animation #187
In this episode, Captain Kaye and the Animation Guru discuss one of their favorite anime that premiered in the Spring 2025 season, Rock is a Lady's Modesty!
What’s going on, everyone? This is your Captain speaking, alongside my esteemed co-host, the Animation Guru! I’ll be honest, there’s absolutely zero reason to bury the lede this time, especially if you’ve already listened to our Spring 2025 anime impressions. There are plenty of other shows released this year that we still need to circle back to, but this one was just so good that we had to make it a priority. Without further ado, please tune into the podcast to hear the full discussion!
Rock is a Lady’s Modesty
Cameron and I already said our piece about how great the first three episodes are, but episode 5 is where the show really hits its stride and becomes one of my all time favorites. I’m amazed by how well this creative team balances its insightful commentary on classism, societal expectations on women under the patriarchy, and the cutthroat reality of the music industry with genuinely great music and plenty of risqué imagery. But even then, it never divulges into pure fan service, and the humor is largely character based. The manga is ongoing, and while I know there is still more story to tell, this first season still feels satisfying on its own.
“Rock is a Lady's Modesty is a true standout title and one of 2025's best new shows. In a year that has mostly been about the returning shows more than the new ones, it's a righteous rebel yell of standing up against a patriarchy and how they control a woman's whole persona as our leads break through the wall with dynamite rock and roll tunes brought to you by Band Maid. With a colorful cast, and some slight fanservice thrown in, you will definitely want to rock out to this anime gem.“ -The Animation Guru
