Ron's Gone Wrong with Spice in Atlantis! - Renegade Animation #40

November 06, 2021 by Joshua Lozano in Animation, Film, Movies, Renegade Animation, Review, RPC Animation, Tooned Up, TV

Tonight, on a fishy episode of Renegade Animation, The Animation Guru and Captain Kaye take a look at Ron's Gone Wrong, the series High Guardian Spice, and the unnaturally quirky Aquaman: King of Atlantis!

How’s it going, fellow Renegades? It’s THE DIRECTOR once again bringing you the latest of the animation scene. And boy, do we have a helluva fun show ahead for you! What do robots, anime, and Aquaman have in common? They’re all the major focus’ of this episode (as well as some announcements and trailers of course…)

Well, I’ll go ahead and kick it over to the Captain for his thoughts on the trio of subjects we have in store for you!

RON’S GONE WRONG (2021)

“This film marks the official debut for Locksmith Animation, a new production company founded in the UK, and boy what a great first impression they made! This is seriously one of the biggest surprises of the year, a movie that has much more going on beneath the surface than the marketing has led on! The only reason it's not better than The Mitchells vs the Machines (I know, not a fair comparison) is because that movie went the extra mile with its use of mixed media, but that is where the comparisons end. At the heart of the film is a story about friendship, whether it's making new friends or reconnecting with ones who've drifted apart. It also happens to be a surprisingly biting commentary on the banality of social media, the superficiality of ‘likes’ and ‘views,’ as well as the cynicism of corporations gathering one's private information and using it to sell products based on their interests. It may not be entirely breaking new ground, but it excels exactly in the areas that it needs to. The voice cast is solid all around. Say what you will about Jack Dylan Grazer's personal life, but as an actor he delivered the performance needed for this character, and the chemistry he shares with Zach Galifianakis as the titular B-Bot Ron is incredibly infectious. I love Rob Delaney as the main antagonist Andrew Morris, the COO of the Bubble company. He's basically a more transparently evil cross between Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, and makes a great foil for Justice Smith as Marc Weidell, the young CEO and creator of the B-Bot. With great animation, impeccable comedic timing, a sharp screenplay and plenty of heart, Ron's Gone Wrong is a damn near perfect family film. If you feel comfortable making a trip to the theater, I highly recommend seeing this as soon as possible!“ - Captain Kaye

HIGH GUARDIAN SPICE (2021)

“High Guardian Spice is a very solid animated series, probably the best of Crunchyroll's original programming by default. Series creator Raye Rodriguez certainly has a strong passion for high fantasy adventure, and uses the setting to tell a compelling coming of age narrative about a group of students at the High Guardian Academy training to become powerful wizards and warriors. It can be a little rough around the edges, but if it's given time to grow, the potential is there for greatness.” - Captain Kaye

AQUAMAN: KING OF ATLANTIS (2021)

“Aquaman: King of Atlantis is awesome in all of its chaotic energy! From the same creative team as Thundercats Roar comes a three part miniseries that follows the events of the Aquaman movie without actually taking place in the DCEU. While the art style may be an acquired taste, the animation itself is awesome, delivering both insanely cool action scenes as well as hilarious visual gags. For those who are into the more comedic DC animated shows, this should be right up your alley!“ - Captain Kaye

Well, that’ll do it for this episode! Special thanks to Cameron for fishing this episode up from the sea of editing! Keep a weather eye on the horizon and we’ll see you in the next episode!
